Renewables 2018 Global Status Report

0

Renewables 2018 Global Status Report is the overview drafted by REN21, the global network that brings together government representatives, scientists, public institutions, NGOs and industrial associations.

Italy is fifth in the world for solar power installed and in fourth place for photovoltaic capacity per capita.

The Renewables 2018 Global Status Report is an in-depth look at the green energy sector, which summarizes the main progress achieved in 2017.

And it is precisely in 2017 the year in which renewable sources have marked the largest increase ever recorded in modern history representing 70% of all the new global electricity production capacity.

The real record should however be given to photovoltaics: the new capacity has increased by 29% compared to 2016, reaching 98 GW and exceeding the net additions of coal, natural gas and nuclear energy combined.

Italy manages to maintain a good position thanks to the growth of the past years and this year it is after China (which has increased in the last year of 53GW), the United States (+ 10.6GW), Japan (+ 7GW) and Germany (+ 1.7GW).

Examining the per capita figure, however, the position is at number 4 of the world.

Renewables 2018 Global Status Report snapshot

If one examines the national level, in Italy photovoltaic has produced 8.7% of national electricity.

In the renewables scenario, solar is the master with 55% of installed renewable power and at the end of 2017 the global renewables capacity reached 2.195GW equal to 26.5% of world electricity.

There are issues in the sectors of heating, cooling and transport where progress is slower and struggling to overcome fossil fuels.

In essence, the report on renewable energy for 2018 rewards the electric but rejects the thermal and transport sectors. There is still a lot to do, but the road taken is heading to an increasingly green produced energy.
