Purmundus Challenge develops the “Beyond 3D Printing” theme for the 2019 competition related to ideas in the field of 3D and 4D printing.
Until next 30th September it is possible to present the candidacies for the Purmundus Challenge which is in charge of assigning various prizes for a total value of 12,000 Euros.
The award ceremony will take place during Formnext, in Frankfurt am Main, on November 21st.
The latest developments in the field of 3D and 4D printing show the enormous potential of additive manufacturing. The drivers in the fields of application are personalization, design freedom and, to a minimum, innovation design.
The functional design is created layer by layer as the perfect link between CAD and aesthetics. And almost all potential applications are currently being tested in order to ascertain whether the production of additives is suitable as a base. 3D and 4D printing is more than ever and increasingly all over the world a fundamental production process that paves the way for intelligent innovations in various different markets.
Beyond the hype, a huge opportunity is presented to all users. 3D printing has reached the “productivity plateau” and now offers a solid starting position. The results are in step with performance expectations. The next wave of bespoke innovations seems much more open to experimentation than in the past.
This makes possible significant improvements in terms of comfort and efficiency and the limits of what can be achieved using technology play a minor role. Additive manufacturing methods are becoming increasingly common in everyday life. Anyone able to trace a track in this continuous expansion process creates USP for himself and sets the pace. New materials, hybrid products and regenerative systems constantly present new opportunities. The creative integration of 3D and 4D printing will be crucial.
But how can these dimensions be designed in detail? What methods can be used to our advantage in product design and production? Are these alternatives or absolute needs for future applications?
As part of the competition, participants face the Purmundus Challenge challenge of identifying useful applications for 3D and 4D printing. It must be built selectively wherever genres and stimulate demand among users. The panel is evaluating the advantages in terms of use, economy and aesthetics, as well as the design itself and innovation.
Once again we encourage participants to consider methods and materials that have not yet been established, are still being researched or have yet to be invented.
The Purmundus Challenge challenges the presented product ideas and comes to a pre-selection. The finalists will be presented in a special exhibition at the Formnext fair from November 19th to 22nd 2019 in Frankfurt. The international panel will select the winners of the Purmundus challenge and present them with their prizes at the fair on November 21, 2019. In addition to the money, the winners will also receive attractive prizes. A prize for the “choice of the people”, voted during the fair by the visitors of Formnext 2019, completes the Purmundus challenge.
